JaSad candidate Shafiur Rahman Sahfi secured the male vice-chairman's post, while BNP leader Farhana Dil Afroz Rumi got the vice-chairman post for the female.

Candidates endorsed by the ruling Awami League failed to get a single post.

Returning Officer Dulal Hossain said the turnout was 73.84 percent in the Upazila in Thursday’s polls.

Jamaat’s Upazila unit chief Jinnat Ali secured 43,882 votes beating his rival Awami League’s Azizul Alam by 7,977 votes.

BNP-backed Jahangir Alam managed to get only 5,512 votes.

It was close race for the male vice-chairman post. JaSad’s Shafi got 28,529 votes beating BNP’s Mokhlesur Rahman by a mere 108 votes.

BNP’s female vice-chairman candidate Rumi defeated her rival Awami League leader Joyjayanti Sarker by 18,637 votes. Rumi got 50,585 votes.

In the second phase, only Bagha Upazila from Rajshahi had gone to polls.
