Dhaka, Nov 8 (bdnews24.com) — Senior lawyer Anisul Haque has been appointed counsellor for the state in the jail killing case, a government statement says.
Haque was also the chief counsellor in the Mujib murder case.
The current government has taken steps to settle the long-awaited jail killing as it did in the Mujib murder case.
The government on Sunday appealed the three-member Appellate Division bench, led by chief justice A B M Khairul Haque, to retry the case.
The four leaders of the wartime government—acting president Syed Nazrul Islam, prime minister Tajuddin Ahmed and cabinet ministers M Mansur Ali and A H M Qamruzzaman—were brutally killed inside Dhaka Central Jail on Nov 3, 1975.
The Awami League government had revived the trial of the jail killings case after it came to power in 1996.
But the trial process was interrupted after the High Court on Oct 20, 2004, during the tenure of the BNP-Jamaat alliance government, handed down a verdict, sentencing 15 of the 20 accused.
