After being questioned in  connection with his wife’s murder, Babul has not reported to work. He is not on leave either.

Babul was posted in Chittagong prior to his promotion and posting in Dhaka a few months ago.

The IGP, on a tour of Chittagong on Thursday to inaugurate the  Chittagong Metropolitan Police officer’s mess building , faced questions from journalists on the decorated SP’s status.

“I have heard Babul is mentally depressed. He has lost the mentality to continue work. The department will do its job on the issue,” he said.

Babul’s wife Mahmuda Aktar Mitu was murdered by miscreants on June 5.

On June 24, sleuths whisked away Babul from his in-law’s house in Dhaka and had apparently quizzed him for 14 hours.

Asked about the progress of the investigation into Mitu’s murder, IGP Hoque said the investigation had made good progress.

He said the local police are investigating the matter and that tracking down main suspect Kamrul Islam Shikdar alias Musa could solve the riddle.
