Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has held meetings with the heads of government of various countries and top officials of international organisations during his trip to New York
The meeting discussed various issues related to bilateral interests, including expanding trade and investment between Bangladesh and these countries and organizations.
Tarique is visiting New York to take part in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. On the sidelines of the session, he is meeting with leaders from across the world.
On Thursday, he met with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at UN Headquarters. The two leaders exchanged views on further strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation, including trade.
That afternoon, the prime minister met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
The meeting, held at the Secretariat Building of the UN Headquarters, discussed cooperation between Bangladesh and the UN, various important global and regional issues, and issues of mutual interest.
On Friday morning, Tarique met with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The two leaders discussed issues of mutual interest as well as regional and international situations, the Prime Minister's Office said.
The Bangladesh premier had met his Croatian counterpart Andrej Plenkovic on Wednesday.
The meeting discussed the possibility of further strengthening the friendly bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Croatia, expanding trade and investment, and increasing cooperation in various areas of mutual interest.
The prime minister also met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian that day at the Hyatt Grand Central New York hotel in Manhattan.
Bangladesh’s head of government had met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday. The meeting discussed the possibility of expanding the existing cooperation between the two countries in various fields including economy, trade and investment.
The prime minister also met his Haitian counterpart Alix Didier Fils-Aimé to talk Bangladesh-Haiti relations, various issues of mutual interest and aspects of cooperation that day.
Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay also met with Tarique on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session, as did Maldives Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef.
UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Barham Salih and World Bank President Ajay Banga, were among the other top world leaders who met the prime minister during the trip.
