The bench of Justices Mainul Islam Chowdhury and Md Ashraful Kamal issued the orders on Thursday after the preliminary hearing of a writ petition filed by the Bangladesh Enviromental Lawyers Assosiation (BELA).
Md Iqbal Kabir Liton argued in favour of the applicant at the court while Deputy Attorney General Md Motahar Hossain Saju represented the State.
Liton said later that the two places are within a kilometre of the Mouza Abdur Rab Serniabat (Dapdapia bridge). Lifting of sand is prohibted in the area.
An organization called SM Hasan Hossain Enterprise is lifting sand from Charkaua, Char Aicha, Char Abdani Mouza.
The court has also issued a rule asking why the sandpit of South Charkaua’s 1456 and 1465 Mouza will not be declared illegal.
The rule also asks why no directions will be given to prevent illegal sand lifting from Kirtankhola River and why directions will not be given to determine the enviromental impact and taking permission before establishing sandpit in future.
The court asked the defendants, including secretaries of Land, Enviorment, Water, to respond within four weeks.
