Dhaka, Apr 7 (bdnews24.com) – Twenty-four leaders and activists of Islamic Law Implementation Committee (ILIC), three of Jamaat-e-Islami and one of Islami Oikya Jote (IOJ) have been granted bails in different cases.
A bench of the High Court comprising justices Shamim Hasnain and Mohammad Rezaul Hasan on Thursday also asked the government to explain why the bail securers will not be given permanent bails.
Jamaat's Dhaka metropolitan unit chief Rafiqul Islam Khan, general secretary Hamid Hossain Azad MP and office secretary Aminul Islam have been given bail for six months in a case filed with the Paltan Police Station for attacking on the law enforcers during Monday's general strike.
Barrister Moudud Ahmed argued for the Jamaat men during the hearing.
The same bench also granted bail to president of a faction of IOJ Mufti Izharul Islam for six months in a case filed for allegedly possessing explosives and books on jihad and holding a secret meeting at Ramu Rubber Forest in Chittagong.
Ramu Police Station sub-inspector Ayub Ali filed the case on Dec 13 last year.
President of the Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Khandker Mahbub Hossain argued for Izharul.
Sixteen more people, including Cox's Bazar's Chakria unit ILIC president Mufti Enamul Haque were granted ad interim bail in two cases filed attacking police at Chakaria during the Apr 4 general strike. Sub-inspector A K M Saifuddin of Chakaria police filed the cases.
The court also passed bail orders to four ILIC men in a case filed by Ramu Police Station sub-inspector Mokaddes Hossain on charges of hurling brickbats at police during the shutdown.
BSCBA president Khandker Mahbub Hossain also argued for the ILIC men during the hearing.
Assistant attorney general Mohammad Mamunur Rashid stood for the state in all the cases.
