Govt shakes up police

In a major shuffle in police, the government has transferred 14 senior officers, including commissioners of four metropolitan cities.

The Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday issued the order about the major shakeup that came amid the rise in militant activities in the country.

The shuffle saw five Deputy Inspector General (DIG)-level officers including commissioners of Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi and Barisal metropolitan police, two Additional Inspectors General (AIG) and seven Superintendents of Police (SPs) moved.

Barisal Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Shamsuddin has been transferred to Khulna City to replace Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman, who has been seconded to Chittagong metropolis.

Chittagong Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam has been sent to Rajshahi City to replace Monir-uz-Zaman, who has been made the DIG of Khulna range.

DIG Shaibal Kanti Chowdhury, who was working with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), has been transferred to Barisal City.

Among the SP-level officers, Narail district’s SM Fazlur Rahman has been made the Deputy Commissioner of Khulna metropolis and Rangamati Commandant Md Morshed Alam the SP of Dhaka Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).

Bandarban district police chief Md Kamrul Ahsan and SP Md Asaduzzaman, attached to Barisal range office, have been transferred to the Police Headquarters as Assistant Inspectors General.

Debdas Bhattacharya, attached to Rangpur range office, has been made the Bandarban SP, Meherpur district police chief Md Mokammel Hossain the Madaripur Highway SP and AKM Nahidul Islam, attached to Rajshahi range, the Meherpur SP.

Police Headquarters AIG Md Mushfequr Rahman has been transferred as the Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet City while Assistant Inspector General Md Sibgat Ullah has been made Commander of the 5th Armed Police Battalion, Dhaka.
