Government splits home ministry in two divisions

The home ministry has been split in two divisions.

The Cabinet Division issued a circular on Thursday, which means the ministry will now have two secretaries for separate divisions handling public security and security services.

Public Security Division will handle the law-enforcing agencies while the Security Services Division will handle fire-service, prisons, narcotics department, and immigration and passports.

The Cabinet Division’s circular said the prime minister has restructured the ministry in line with the Rules of Business.

In November last year, the education ministry was also split in two divisions -- Secondary and Higher Education Division and Technical and Madrasah Education Division.

The government has also agreed in principle to split the health and family welfare ministry.
