Dhaka, Nov 15 (bdnews24.com)—The first ever National Agriculture Day was being observed throughout the country on Saturday, the start of Agrahayan, the month of harvest in the Bengali calendar.
The chief adviser's special assistant Manik Lal Samaddar formally inaugurated the day by taking part in a harvest reaping ceremony with farmers in Dhamrai.
This theme for this year is "Agriculture leads to progress".
To observe the day, the ministry of agriculture has planned a series of programmes.
The Institute of Fine Arts at Dhaka University also chalked out day-long festivities including painting competitions for children, a colourful parade and cultural shows.
In a year that has seen food security threatened worldwide, the chief adviser announced on World Food Day this year (Oct 16) that an annual National Agriculture Day would be inaugurated.
The CA at the time stressed boosting domestic output in hand with ensuring availability for all as the twin challenges to overcoming the threat to food security in Bangladesh.
