Dhaka, Jan 12 (bdnews24.com) – Kazi Faruque Ahmed, ousted chairman of Proshika, one of the largest NGOs of the country, took control of the NGO's headquarters in the capital with his people in the early hours of Tuesday, officials and witnesses said.
Pallabi police chief Iqbal Hossain said the people who took control of the building were still inside on Tuesday mid-morning.
Police were deployed around Proshika Bhaban to thwart any further untoward incident, he said.
Proshika official Sirajul Islam said Faruque's people entered the main entrance just after the midnight Monday, beat the staff engaged in patrolling the building and took up occupation.
Senior accountant Md Alauddin, a witness, said some 15 to 20 people along with pistols and clubs attacked the people who were in guard of the Proshika headquarters and forced them out.
