A Russian citizen working at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Project in Pabna’s Ishurdi has died after suddenly falling ill.

Churkin Vladimir, 40, was taken to hospital after collapsing on Friday evening but died on the way, said Ishwardi Police chief Asadur Rahman.

He worked for Atomtekh Energo, an affiliate of Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom. He lived in a residential building inside the project’s Green City complex.

Police said Vladimir felt chest pain while exercising inside the residential complex on Friday evening and collapsed. His colleagues took him to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.

Officer Asadur said no visible injury marks were found on the body during the inquest.

“He is suspected of having died of a heart attack. However, the exact cause of death will be confirmed after a post-mortem,” he said.

The body has been sent to Pabna Medical College Hospital for postmortem examination. Legal procedures will be completed after the report is received, he added.

Authorities said arrangements will be made to repatriate the body to Russia through the relevant embassy and project officials.
