Police have recovered the body of a 30-year-old man, identified as Parvez, from the residence of an Awami League leader in Bandar Upazila, Narayanganj.

Relatives alleged that Parvez, a construction worker from Siddhirganj who rented a house in Bandar, was beaten to death on suspicion of theft.

Bandar Police chief Liakat Ali said the body was found on Monday, abandoned in the balcony of the home of Mesbah Uddin, president of the Ward-26 unit of Narayanganj Metropolitan AL.

Police added that Mesbah and his family had fled.

According to authorities, Parvez was picked up at 4am and brought to the house, where Mesbah and his two sons allegedly beat him until 6am. Injury marks were evident on his body.

“Parvez is a mason, not a thief. They picked up my husband, accusing him of stealing power cables. I want justice,” said Khadiza Begum, the victim’s wife.

Police noted that Parvez had been accused in five cases related to drug smuggling and extortion.
