Human rights activist and Impact Foundation Bangladesh's founder trustee Mansur Ahmed Chowdhury has been elected chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Transparency International Bangladesh, or TIB.
He succeeds outgoing chairperson Sultana Kamal in the role.
The TIB board has also welcomed two new members: Barrister Manzoor Hasan, OBE, the organisation’s founding executive director, and Tahera Yasmin, an expert on women’s empowerment, gender equality, and good governance.
Faruque Ahmed, a TIB Board of Trustees member, has also taken over as the chairman of its Audit Committee. Retired Controller General of Defence Finance Motahar Hossain joins him as a committee member.
Mansur is renowned as the visionary behind the floating hospital "Jibon Tori."
He has been actively working for the rights and overall welfare of persons with disabilities, including playing a key role in forming and leading the National Disability Forum.
He served as a member of the UN Human Rights Commission’s Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities from 2009 to 2012.
Among his accolades are the Nirafat Anam Memorial Inclusion, or NAMI, Award 2021, the Sylhet Ratna Award, the Lifetime Achievement Award from Singer Bangladesh and Channel i, and the Senior Ashoka Fellowship.
The TIB Board of Trustees is the organisation’s highest policy-making body. Other members include:
