A group of Samorita students started the demonstration in front of its Tejgaon campus on Sunday morning against the hike and demanding rise in the pay for interns.
Mockbul went to speak to them around 10:30am and launched into a foul-mouthed rant to threaten the protesters.

“What the f*** happened to the authorities and the principals there? Nothing! But you will miss a year. We’ll expel you,” he is heard telling the protesters in a video gone viral on the social media.
He then asked how many students were there on the street. One of the protesters replied that the others were at home but had expressed solidarity with the protesters.
“And the government has expressed solidarity with me. Those who are impudent will get their heads blown off,” he said.

Mockbul, however, gave in to the demands of the protesters in the afternoon.
He was elected an MP in 1996. Besides Samorita, he has also established Dhaka International University, City University, Alhaj Mockbul Hossain University College, Mohammadpur Kendrio Biswabidyalaya College and many other educational institutions.
He also owns Sandhani Life Insurance and Purabi General Insurance besides many other business concerns.
One of the demonstrators said they had originally started the protests demanding the withdrawal of the expulsion of an intern but later added the other demands.

Mockbul told bdnews24.com they had suspended an intern after a student from India had complained that the intern assaulted him for ‘not showing respect to seniors’ on Jan 11.
“The protesters had demanded withdrawal of the intern’s expulsion but later added the other demands. We came to know about the new demand on Sunday.
“But after all, we’ve accepted all of their demands to keep the situation normal,” he said.
