Ex-CEC MA Syed passes away

Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) MA Sayed passed away on Saturday morning following old age complications. He was 76.

The public relations manager at the secretariat of the Election Commission, M Asaduzzaman confirmed that the former CEC died at his own residence in Gulshan at around 6:00am.

Sayed was made the CEC in May 2000, towards the end of the previous Awami League government. He carried out his responsibilities till May 2005, during the rule of the BNP.

The eighth parliamentary elections were held under his term at the Election Commission.

Syed would be buried on Wednesday after his children arrived from the United States, Asaduzzaman said.
