Dhaka, March 18 (bdnews24.com) - The joint forces Sunday arrested former BNP MP from Sherpur-3 constituency Mahmudul Haque Rubel along with his younger brother from his residence in Kafrul in the city.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, Dhaka, ordered them into jail on a one-month detention.
Kafrul police chief Abdul Khaleque told bdnews24.com the security officials cordoned off the house of Rubel at about 5 am and arrested him and his brother Mahbubul Haque Rupam.
Sources said Rubel was one of the key corruption suspects. He is on the list of the Anticorruption Commission.
Rubel's lawyer Mohammad Ali told journalists the former MP was implicated in a false case just to tarnish his image.
