Jashore has taken on a festive look as Prime Minister Tarique Rahman prepares to visit the district on Monday, marking his first official tour to the area since assuming office.

The city’s alleys and thoroughfares are draped in banners, festoons, and ceremonial arches.

BNP activists have been conducting leafleting campaigns and various preparatory programmes daily to mark the occasion.

Nargis Begum, vice chairman of BNP, noted that while the premier last visited Jashore on Feb 2 during the campaign for the general election, this trip holds special significance as his first visit as head of government.

State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, Aninda Islam Amit, confirmed that Jashore was chosen as the starting point for the prime minister's tour of the Khulna Division.

Upon his arrival by air in the morning, Tarique will inaugurate the re-excavation of the Ulashi Canal, a project famously initiated by his father, the late president Ziaur Rahman.

Following this, he is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for a full-fledged medical college hospital, a long-standing demand of the local residents.

Tarique will also visit the historic Jashore Public Library before addressing a public rally at the Jashore Eidgah Maidan.

Jashore Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ashek Hasan told reporters that all preparations are complete, with a primary focus on security.
