Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Monirul Islam has been made its chief, DMP’s Deputy Commissioner (Media) Maruf Hossain Sarder said on Tuesday.
Islam told bdnews24.com the specialised unit was formed to increase the law-enforcing agency’s capacity to curb militancy.
The CTTC unit will have 600 members including one DIG, one additional DIG, four deputy commissioners (DC), 10 additional DCs and 20 assistant commissioners.
However, the unit is yet to operate in full force as recruitment is still under process, said Islam, who has long experience of being the DMP’s spokesperson and dealing with terrorist activities.
Police had previously informed the media that this unit would recruit officials from the DMP and the Detective Branch who have been working to curb extremist activities.
CTTC will collect data and information of terrorists at home and abroad, monitor and prevent their operations and also work to arrest them.
Police officials said the unit has been equipped with latest technologies.
