Dhaka, April 7 (BDNEWS) – Direct flight between Beijing and Dhaka through Kunming will start on May 18 with China declaring Bangladesh as a 'Tourist Destination Country'.
A letter of exchange on the direct air link was signed here Thursday between Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh and China's Eastern Airlines after the official talks between visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
The air link will open up a new horizon to the economic progress and the relation between the two countries.
Earlier, an air service agreement was signed with China during the tenure of late president Ziaur Rahman at his earnest effort but later it did not move ahead. Prime Minister Khaleda Zia during her visit to China spoke of a feasibility study on direct air communication between Bangladesh and China.
An aircraft of China Eastern Airlines will fly to Dhaka via Beijing-Kunming on May 18. On the same day the plane will return to Beijing via Kunming. Initially seven flights will run in a week.
