The Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police have arrested former senior secretary for home affairs Mostafa Kamal Uddin.
He was arrested in Chattogram on Thursday morning, according to Rabiul Hossain Bhuiyan, joint commissioner of the DB.
“Mostafa Kamal is being brought to Dhaka after his arrest,” he said.
Cases have been filed against Kamal at different police stations, but the police official was unable to confirm which case he was arrested under.
Kamal joined the Bangladesh Civil Service’s Administrative Cadre in the 1984 batch. In 1986, he was appointed as an assistant commissioner and has served in various roles in the government since.
On Aug 25, 2017, he was appointed as the secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs. On Sept 16, 2019, he was promoted to senior secretary at the ministry.
On Jan 12, 2023, he retired from his government job and was added as a chairman to the Biman Bangladesh Airlines Board of Directors. On Aug 19, he was removed from the post.
His arrest comes amid a wave of arrests of Awami League MPs, ministers, supporters and government officials with ties to the party.
