Twenty three new photo exhibitions on the theme of 'Freedom' have been unveiled for the second phase of the International Festival of Photography, Bangladesh 2009.

Dhaka, Feb 3 (bdnews24.com)—A striking portrayal of jute workers in stark black and white images, by Bangladeshi photographer Munem Wasif, was launched at the Kalpana Boarding at Shahkhari Bazaar Tuesday at 3.00pm.
The exhibition, titled 'Blood Splinter of Jute', is purposely sited in the unusual space outside of the capital's conventional galleries as part of Chobi Mela V - the International Festival of Photography 2009.
The show depicts "a bloodstained story of the golden thread of the golden fibre of Bangladesh", say the festival's organisers.
It shows the present status of what was once a flourishing industry of the country—gradual unemployment, lack of government patronisation, shut down of factories, and "exploitation causing the death of thousands of jute mill workers".
Poet Farhad Mazhar opened the exhibition. Festival director Shahidul Alam presiding at the opening session.
The show is open to all 11 am to 8 pm until Feb 12.
