Dhaka, July 1 (bdnews24.com)—Chief prosecutor of the Anticorruption Commission and former BNP lawmaker advocate Mahbubur Rahman resigned Sunday.
He was asked to resign at a meeting held at the commission office Sunday. He sent his resignation letter to the commission the same day, ACC sources said.
ACC chairman Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury told reporters, "The decision of his resignation was taken at the meeting. He accepted the decision and resigned. Through his resignation the controversy created surrounding his appointment has been resolved."
"There is no senior lawyer in the country that does not have a link to a political party," said Chowdhury.
The chairman also said that as the ACC can appoint any lawyer it can also remove him.
"However the commission will remain more alert in such matters in future," he added.
On the allegation of corruption against advocate Mahbubur Rahman, the ACC chairman said, "These matters might be looked into in future."
However he said there was no possibility of the commission taking any action at present.
"The commission cannot busy itself with just one person neglecting other responsibilities," the chairman said.
