A journalist has been shot dead in Khulna’s Dumuria.

Aronghata Police Station chief Shahjahan Ahmed said the shooting took place at 9:30pm at Shalua Bazar on Sunday.

The victim was identified as Imdadul Haque Milon, a former president of Shalua Press Club.

Another man was also injured in the incident, police said.

Imdad was involved with a news portal called “Bartoman Somoy”. He was also the general secretary of the Shalua Market Management Committee.

Debashish Bishwas, a veterinarian, was injured when the assailants opened fire on Imdad and a bullet hit him in the head.

Witnesses said four assailants on two motorcycles carried out the attack by firing indiscriminately at Imdad, who was sitting at a tea shop at the market.

“At one point the assailants also held a gun to Imdad’s head and fired several shots,” police chief Shahjahan said.
