Dhaka, June 2 (BDNEWS) – Newly elected mayor of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury and 54 ward commissioners were sworn in Thursday.
Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia administered the oath to the mayor Mohiuddin Chowdhury at the International Conference Centre at the PM's Office.
LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury, Political Advisor to the Prime Minister, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Abdullah Al Noman, State Minister for LGRD Ziaul Haque Zia, mayor of Dhaka Sadeque Hossain Khoka, Harris Chowdhury, Political Secretary to the Prime Minister were present at the ceremony.
Representatives and high officials of different foreign missions were also present. Later LGRD and cooperatives minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan administered the oath to the newly elected ward commissioners at the LGED auditorium. However, one ward commissioner could not take oath because of suspension of the result.
ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury beat State Minister For Civil Aviation and Tourism Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin, four-party coalition candidate by nearly 91 thousand votes in the CCC election held on May 9.
Out of 41 ward commissioners 22 are from Awami League, 10 from BNP, 1 from Jamaat and the remaining eight are independents. Besides 14 women ward commissioners were elected directly.
Later Mohiuddin Chowdhury told the journalists the prime minister had assured him of cooperation for CCC's development.
