Chittagong, June 13 (bdnews24.com) – Chittagong mayoral candidates and ward councillor aspirants continued with their election campaign, ignoring heavy rain.
The BNP-backed M Mazur Alam campaigned with his supporters, soaked to the skin, amid stormy weather.
He carried on with his campaign from noon to evening on Sunday, getting drenched in the heavy shower, met voters and sought their support ahead of the June 17 city corporation elections.
Manzur campaigned at Ispahani Intersection, Chanmri Intersection, Debarpar, Tankir Pahar and other areas of the city.
Awami League-backed ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury faced the same situation.
Throughout the day he campaigned along with central leaders of the ruling party.
Mohiuddin conducted his campaign in Barik Building Intersection of Agrabad, Biman Chattar, EPZ, Katgar and other areas of the city.
The ward commissioners also carried on with their campaign.
The deadline for election campaign ends Tuesday and candidates are trying to use as much of the time as possible for electioneering.
While campaigning for Manzur, BNP central vice chairman Abdullah Al Noman said, "Time is short. We have to reach every voter. So we must ignore the rain."
The heavy showers and stormy weather that has prevailed in the port since Saturday evening tore off posters which disheartened candidates.
But during a small break on Sunday noon, the supporters put up new posters.
Unfortunately their efforts failed as the rain returned soon.
"I am absolutely soaked. But there is nothing to do. The time is short," Salimullah Bacchu, a ward councillor candidate of ward-22, told bdnews24.com.
"Due to constant rain, the posters have been ruined. We are filling the gaps with new posters in the morning and at night," he said.
The diverse election campaigns of the seven mayors and 249 general ward councillor and 59 woman ward councillors have reached its peak with blaring speakers, rallies, processions and band parties.
