Chittagong University Professor Dhali Al Mamun and his wife Dilara Begum Joli also testified.

On Aug 13, 2011, the three were Tareque Masud’s co-passengers in an ill-fated microbus.

A speeding Chuadanga-bound bus had hit the microbus, killing Tareque and ATN News CEO Ashfaque (Mishuk) Munier on the spot.

Driver Mostafijur Rahman, production assistants Motaher Hossain Wasim and Jamal Hossain were also killed.

Tareque and his film crew were on their way to inspect a location for his next film 'Kagojer Fool' at Shaljana village in Shivalaya in Manikganj.

The accident occurred at Joka in Ghior Upazila, near the Dhaka-Aricha highway on their way back.

The then SI of the Ghior Police Station, Lutfar Rahman, filed a case in connection with the accident. Driver Jamir Hossain was arrested but released on a bail on Nov 17, 2011.

After finishing the probe, then OC of the Ghior Police Station Ashraf Ul Islam submitted a charge sheet indicting the bus driver in the same year. The trial started on Sept 17, 2011.

Catherine, Dhali Al Mamun and Joly gave their testimonies between 12 noon and 2:45 pm.

Judge Rafiqul Islam fixed Oct 23 as the next date of hearing.

Bus driver Jamir Hossain, currently on bail, was also present in court.

APP Afsarul Islam Moni, AKM Nurul Huda Rubel and Tariqul Islam represented the state, while Madhab Kundu was the defence lawyer.

Afsarul told journalists that he hoped that the victims would get justice.

Madhab Saha, however, said his client would be proved innocent.
