Habiganj, March 17 (bdnews24.com) – Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed will inaugurate the newly developed Bibiyana gas field Sunday.
The field's public relations official Murad Ahmed Saturday told bdnews24.com that their preparations to formally open the field were almost complete. The field is 180 kilometres northeast of the capital, Dhaka.
Authorities on March 9 started supplying gas from the onshore field to the national grid on a test basis.
The US-based Unocal discovered the field in 1998 but later another US oil and gas company Chevron took over the field.
In November 2004, the company signed a natural gas purchase and sales agreement with the state-run regulator Petrobangla to develop and produce natural gas from the field.
The project includes a gas plant and a natural gas pipeline to connect the Bibiyana field to the national transmission grid and a condensate pipeline.
Chevron's initial production is projected to be 150 to 200 million cubic feet of gas per day. Production is expected to reach 500 million cubic feet of gas per day by 2010. The gas processing plant's capacity is 600 million cubic feet daily.
