Youth arrested for allegedly killing wife over family feud in Sirajganj

Police say the accused confessed to strangling his wife amid ongoing family disputes

Police have arrested a young man in Sirajganj's Shahjadpur Upazila on allegations of strangling his wife to death.

The killing took place at Moshipur village under Garadaha Union in the Upazila on Thursday night, said Shahjadpur Police chief Saiful Islam.

The victim was identified as Mim Akter, 18.

Police arrested her husband, Md Rasel, 20, later that night.

Citing family members and locals, officer Saiful said the couple had been in a relationship before their families arranged their marriage about a year and a half ago.

They had recently been going through family disputes, he added.

Following this, Rasel allegedly strangled his wife to death at their home around 9pm on Thursday, according to the allegation.

"We recovered the victim's body from the scene the same night after being informed, and arrested Rasel," Saiful said. "During preliminary interrogation after his arrest, Rasel confessed to the killing."

The victim's body has been sent to the hospital morgue for postmortem examination.

He father Abdul Alim has filed a case in connection with the incident, the police officer added.
