Police have arrested the driver of a crane that ran over and killed a 19-year-old HSC examinee on her way to an exam in Chattogram’s Patenga.
Shamim Biswas, 31, was arrested in the Free Port area under EPZ Police Station on Sunday night, Chattogram Metropolitan Police said in a statement.
The victim, Nafisa Nawal, was a student of CMP School and College at the Dampara Police Lines and lived in Patenga's Kathgar area.
She was travelling to Haji Muhammad Mohsin College on a ride-sharing motorcycle on Saturday to sit an exam.
Police said Nafisa fell onto the road as the motorcycle was passing a rickshaw van opposite the Navy Hospital gate in Bandartila.
A crane belonging to Max Company, heading towards Saltgola Crossing, then ran over her.
The driver, Shamim, fled the scene, police said.
Nafisa was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Her father later filed a case under the Road Transport Act with EPZ Police Station.
Police arrested Shamim the following night.
