A commuter train headed to Narayanganj has derailed in Dhaka’s Gopibag. This has caused a halt in rail service on the Dhaka-Narayanganj and Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga routes.

The train derailed around 7:30am on Thursday, according to Md Anowar Hossain, station master at Dhaka’s Kamalapur Station.

Efforts to recover the train were ongoing as of 11am.

“We are trying to recover the train and resume service on the line,” Anowar said. “The work is ongoing. The Sundarban Express is stuck due to the derailment. The line could be cleared soon and the Sundarban Express can get on its way.”
