A train also ran off its tracks on the east side of the Jamuna Bridge on Thursday night but communications with Bangladesh’s northern region were continuing on alternate tracks.

No casualties in Feni

The accident at the Fatehpur level crossing in Feni Sadar occurred around 10pm, but there were no casualties, police said.

Dhaka-bound Chattala Express crashed into the Comilla-bound bus when the latter stopped right on the rail tracks following an engine failure, said Feni Government Railway Police Sub-Inspector Mejbaul Alam.

He said the bus fell into a ditch after the collision, but no one was harmed as all the passengers managed to get out moments earlier.

Railway services came to a stop on the route when a coach fell off the tracks.

Railways officials said a rescue train was already on its way. They also hoped the services will resume within several hours.

Two coaches, engine derail in Tangail

The derailment of a Sirajganj-bound train near Ibrahimabad Railway Station, on Jamuna Bridge’s east side, in Tangail took place around 10pm, officials said.

Ibrahimabad station official Abdul Mannan told bdnews24.com two bogies and the engine of the train veered off the tracks.

The services were, however, running normally on alternate tracks, he said.

A relief train from Ishwardi was on its way to the accident spot, he added.

Police said there were no casualties.
