‘Akhi’ had suffered 30 percent burns on her body after the factory of Colour Max (BD) caught fire on Tuesday afternoon.
The 16-year-old worker died around 1:30am as her windpipe was badly damaged, said Dr Partha Shankar Pal of Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s Burn Unit.
Nineteen more workers were admitted at the Burn Unit among the 26 injured in the fire.
'Akhi', from Mithapukur in Rangpur, used to work in the gas lighter factory along with 100 other workers.
The cause of the fire is still not known. Locals said they heard a loud explosion before seeing the factory go up in flames.
Three of the factory’s tin shacks were destroyed by the time firefighters could tame the blaze after two hours of effort.
Six others, who were injured, were admitted at Savar’s Enam Medical College Hospital and Uttara’s East West Medical College Hospital.
