Farashuddin all praise for budget

Former Governor of the Bangladesh Bank Mohammad Farashuddin has said the budget proposed for 2012-13 fiscal is 'implementable'.

Dhaka, Jun 7 (bdnews24.com) – Former Governor of the Bangladesh Bank Mohammad Farashuddin has said the budget proposed for 2012-13 fiscal is 'implementable'.
"The proposed budget is positive, and development- and welfare-oriented, and implementable," he told bdnews24.com after Finance Minister A M A Muhith presented the Tk 1.91-trillion budget in parliament on Thursday.
"Domestic industries have been given enough safeguard in the budget. It is very positive. On the other hand, social safety network has been expanded," he said.
He, however, said the rate of tax at source on exports should not be increased to 1.2 percent.
Farashuddin urged the finance minister to reconsider the decision to cut tax at source on exports.
He also urged Muhith to withdraw tax at source on savings certificate.
The former central bank governor welcomed the proposal to increase tax on cigarettes.
