Local people suspect they were killed by the pirates.

They said they saw 16 bodies around 25 kilometres away from Bashkhali’s Shekherkhil, but none from the administration or police could confirm the exact number.

“I’ve heard about those bodies surfacing. But I cannot say anything unless those are recovered,” Sabbir Kamal, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), told bdnews24.com

Thirty-two fishermen were abducted after pirates attacked three of their boats in the sea on Mar 25.

Bashkhali Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Kamrul Islam told bdnews24.com that three from Shekherkhil were among those abducted.

He said he heard that several bodies are floating on the water.

Locals said fishermen first saw the bodies in the sea at noon and then informed the locals.
