Detectives have arrested Mahfuzur Rahman Mita, former MP for Chattogram-3, during a raid in Dhaka's Gulshan.
A team from the Detective Branch (DB) picked up Mita from a house in Gulshan around 1:30am on Tuesday, DB Gulshan Division Deputy Commissioner AFM Anwar Hossain Khan said.
Officers raided House No. 29 on Road No. 43 in Gulshan-2 based on a tip-off.
The DB official added that Mita was taken to the DB office on Minto Road after the arrest, with legal proceedings under way.
Mita secured three successive victories in Chattogram-3 as an Awami League candidate, winning in the 10th, 11th and 12th national elections.
He was named in several cases in his home constituency of Sandwip following the July Uprising.
