The incident took place at Arparha High School grounds on Sunday morning, said Shalikha police OC Abu Zihad.
Supporters of Kutub Uddin, president of the Thana unit BCL, and Mozahar Biswas, another leader of the pro-Awami League student body, got involved in a clash while placing wreath at the memorial, according to witnesses.
“Police later charged with batons to disperse them,” the OC told bdnews24.com.
BCL leader Kutub Uddin said, “Some miscreants attacked us when we went to pay tribute at the Shaheed Minar. We then chased them away.”
He claimed some people were hurt by rubber bullets fired by the police. However, he could not identify those injured.
Clashes were reported at Jessore Central Shaheed Minar as well. Police had to fire in air when some crude bombs were hurled during the violence early on Feb 21.
