Dhaka, Jan 25 (bdnews24.com) - Dr Shafiqul Islam Bhuiyan was appointed new chairman of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) Wednesday.
BAEC sources said that Dr Bhuiyan would conduct his new assignment in addition to his existing duty of heading the Physical Sciences Department of the organisation as a Member.
Dr Bhuiyan, a reactor physicist, has been assigned the job for one year.
All staff members of the BAEC had been on a work abstention since January 3 protesting the earlier appointment of Dr Abdul Aziz as chairman.
Dr Aziz who had been termed an outsider, resigned a few days ago in the face of the abstention, which had virtually crippled the country's food imports.
Dr Shafiq, meanwhile, served as a teacher in nuclear engineering at King Abdul Aziz University in Saudi Arabia from 2000 to 2005.
