Dhaka, Oct 24 (bdnews24.com) – The government is working to convert the reputed Azimpur Girls School and College to a public educational institution in view of the demand of the people living in the locality.
"The government is working on converting Azimpur Girls School and College and Shahid Monu Miah High School, Tejgaon, Dhaka to public institutions," education minister Nurul Islam Nahid told parliament in reply to a question of Awami League woman lawmaker Noor Afroz Ali on Monday.
The prestigious school was established in 1957 by the Welfare Association of Government Employees, and the first head master was Kazi Ambor Ali.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina also studied at the school.
Property of the institution includes a building, a large playground and a residence for the principal. It has about 2,800 students and over 70 teachers.
The institution is known for its cultural activities. It hosts educational events like Bangladesh Mathematics Olympiad and Bhasha Protijog. The school celebrated its Golden Jubilee and reunion in 2007.
