Dhaka, Oct 8 (bdnews24.com)—Bidit Lal Das, noted singer-composer and Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra artiste, died at Square Hospital in Dhaka at the age of 74 in the early hours of Monday.
He composed several popular songs including "Sylhet Prothom Azan Dhwani", "Pran Kandey Mon Kandere", "Sadher Lau Banailo More Bairagi", " Morile Kandis Na Amar Dai".
He had been suffering from kidney and lung diseases.
His only son Biswadit Lal Das told bdnews24.com the funeral of his father would take place in Sylhet. He said he left for Sylhet with the mortal remains around 12pm.
Biswadit added his father's body will be taken to Sylhet Central Shaheed Minar premises at 11am Tuesday for people to pay their homage.
Later he will be buried at a cremation ground near Subanighat at 2pm, he added.
His family members said he was admitted to a private hospital in Sylhet on Sept 7 first and later shifted to Dhaka on Sept 21 as his condition deteriorated. They added that he had been on life support at the Square Hospital since Oct 4.
His co-artistes and people from the music industry rushed to the hospital when the news of his passing way got out.
Biswadit expressed his frustration as his father was not given due respects at the state level during his lifetime. "Although the noted artiste got several recognitions both at home and abroad, he was yet to be given state honour."
He also requested the authorities to provide the late artiste with the state honour.
Das was the president of Bangladesh Sangeet Sangathan Samannay Parisad's Sylhet divisional unit.
