Bandarban, Aug 21 (BDNEWS) – Members of Bangladesh Army and Bangladesh Rifles began special joint operations in Chittagong Hill Tracts since Saturday night to wipe out terrorism in the bordering areas.
Sources said that more than two thousand members of Army and BDR in 50 groups started to carry out combing operations in the inaccessible areas including Alikadam, Naikkhangchhari and Thanchi bordering areas.
A spokesperson of the security forces said the drives are carrying out under the supervision of army as huge numbers of arms and ammunitions have been recovered from Naikkhangchhari and Thanchi bordering areas in recent times.
It is learnt that huge numbers of BDR personnel have been carrying out search in the adjacent areas of Bangladesh-Myanmar border.
BDR members recovered 5 AK-47 rifles, 1 M-16 rifle, eight 12-bore Rifles, 1 LMG, 1 SMG, 1 sack and two cartoons of TNT explosive, one thousand bullets, huge amount of empty magazine and combat uniform of army during operations in last one and half month.
Five foreign terrorists were also nabbed in the drives.
