Brahmanbaria, Jan 27 (bdnews24.com) — Ruling Awami League's R A M Obaidul Moktadir Chowdhury has beaten his BNP rival in Brahmanbaria-3 by-polls.
Awami League candidate R A M Obaidul Moktadir Chowdhury bagged 125,141 votes, while his closest contender, BNP's Mohammad Khaled Hossain Mahbub took 84,631 on Thursday.
Returning officer Mohammad Istafizul Akhanda announced the results.
The seat became vacant after ruling party MP Abdul Hye Sacchu died last year.
After the polls, BNP leaders at a press conference demanded re-election in five centres of the constituency alleging widespread irregularities.
By-polls were also held in Habiganj-1 constituency, where the BNP candidate came out successful.
