Shafiha Rahman said her family has been receiving threats from the individuals through whom the 11-year old was sent to work in Dhaka.

The minor domestic help was found unconscious in a heap of garbage at the capital’s Pallabi on Sept 23 with severe wounds inflicted by physical abuses.

Aduri’s employer Naurin Jahan Nodi has been arrested on charges of abuse.

The girl is now admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Her condition is improving and she is now able to eat dry food, the hospital’s director Brig Gen Mostafizur Rahman told bdnews24.com, assuring that the hospital authority will make sure she receives all the treatment she needs.

The child maid hails from Joinokathi village of Baulfol, Potuakhali. Shafia, 60, is a single parent of nine children. Her husband passed away three years ago.

Aduri was sent to work in Dhaka two years ago through one Chunnu Miah, Shafia said sitting next to her daughter in the hospital.
She first worked as a maid in the house of in-laws of Chunnu Miah.
Then she was sent to Saiful Islam Masud’s residence. Masud is Chunnu’s brother-in-law.
Masud’s wife Naurin Jahan Nodi was arrested on Sept 26 and put on a three-day remand for abusing the child maid.
“Chunnu Miah told my brother Nazrul that we should not have taken up Aduri’s case with the police,” mother Shafiha Rahman told bdnews24.com. “He told my brother that we better not return to the village.”
She broke down in tears seeing the numerous torture marks on her child’s body and feared that “powerful people” of the village will not let them return home.
“She was slashed with blades all over her body. Her back, belly and chest was burned with hot iron,” Shafiha, with a lump in her voice, described the horrific torture the child bore.
The child household worker narrated to her mother how her employer Nodi used to continually torture her.
“She used to be a beautiful girl with a chubby face. I thought her life would be made if she starts working. But this is now what happened to her.”
