Law enforcers have surrounded and launched a raid on a residential building in Chattogram’s Panchlaish where a robbery was reported.
Police say a gang of robbers entered the second floor of the six-storey building opposite the Prabartak Shangha on Tuesday.
Hasib Aziz, the commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, came out of the building around 2:30pm and said: “Robbers entered the house and held those inside hostage. Police came to the scene when the incident was reported. “
“A robber had held the homeowner hostage inside a bathroom. We detonated sound grenades and rescued him.”
The police commissioner said that two suspected robbers had been detained.
The homeowner was taken to the hospital with an injury while the two suspected robbers were taken to the police station, the commissioner said.
“We are investigating how many residents are inside the flat and how many have gone inside.”
Locals say that Lokman Hakim, the owner of the building, is the former managing director of Hakim Eastern Refinery Limited and the son-in-law of the Abul Khair Group’s owner.
