The Inter Service Public Relations Directorate, the military’s press wing, issued a statement on Thursday, saying he was being appointed for three years from Jun 12.
Esrar would replace Air Marshal Muhammad Enamul Bari, who is retiring on Jun 12.
The statement said Esrar’s promotion to Air Marshal would be effective from the day of his joining as the air force chief.
