Vandalism, arson at home of Tofail Ahmed in Bhola

The residence of senior Awami League leader and former member of parliament Tofail Ahmed has been vandalised and set on fire in Bhola.

An agitated group of people gathered in front of the “Priya Kuti” house on Gazipur Road in the district town around 1am on Thursday and started vandalising it.

People nearby were seen celebrating as the “Joy Bangla” song rang out from speakers. They chanted “Joy Bangla” slogans and danced.

Witnesses say some 200-300 people took part in the vandalism. Many pieces of furniture inside were brought out and set on fire. Fires were also set on the ground floor and first floor of the residence.

The fire was still burning inside the house and on the street as of 3am.
