9 burnt in Magura fire-bombing

Nine workers have suffered severe burns in a petrol bomb attack on a truck in Magura amid a violent BNP-sponsored transport blockade.

Saturday’s arson victims have been sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

Eight of them have been identified as Arob Ali, ‘Imran’, ‘Faruk’, ‘Nazmul’, ‘Nowsher’, ‘Rowshan’, ‘Matin’ and ‘Yiadul’ – all hailing from the Sadar Upazila.

The ninth victim could not be identified.

Magura Sadar Hospital’s emergency ward doctor Debashish Biswas said they had suffered between 62 and 82 percent burns.

Quoting victim Matin, Assistant Superintendent of Police Sudarshan Kumar Roy said they were attacked at Moghirdhal on their way back to Magura.

Locals rushed them to Magura Sadar Hospital where they received first aid. The hospital does not have a burn unit.

More than 100 people have been killed during the BNP’s ongoing agitation since Jan 5, mostly in arson.
