Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has met his Croatian counterpart Andrej Plenkovic in New York, with the two leaders discussing closer economic ties, trade and investment, and opportunities for skilled Bangladeshi workers.
The meeting took place at the United Nations headquarters on Wednesday afternoon, local time, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the two leaders discussed ways to strengthen relations between Bangladesh and Croatia and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
They identified trade and investment, skilled manpower, education and technology among areas with scope for greater cooperation.
Tarique and Plenkovic also discussed closer coordination at multilateral forums, including the United Nations, and on international issues of common interest.
Gates Foundation Talks Focus On Health
Separately, Tarique met Gates Foundation Chief Executive Officer Mark Suzman, with discussions focusing on public health and plans to modernise Bangladesh’s healthcare system.
The meeting took place at the Hyatt Grand Central New York, where the prime minister is staying, on Tuesday morning, local time.
According to the PMO, the talks covered child health, immunisation, affordable vaccines and preventive healthcare.
They also discussed plans to expand healthcare services at the Upazila and district levels and recruit and train 100,000 health workers.
The proposed initiative would also seek to create opportunities for trained health workers to find employment abroad.
The discussions further covered plans for a “digital public healthcare system” incorporating artificial intelligence, according to the PMO.
