The fire broke out around 3:30am on Monday at a house in the Dhakeshwari No. 2 area in Narayanganj, said Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, resident physician at the institute's emergency department. They were brought to the institute around 4:45am.

"Most of them came with major burn injuries to the emergency department. Most of them have major burns and are in critical condition.”

The injured have been identified as Md Sabbir, 16, Hannan, 40, Lucky, 30, Samia, 9, Jannat, 3, Rupali, 20, Sumaiya, 1.5, and Shohag, 23.

Sabbir had burns on 27 percent of his body, Hannan on 45 percent, Lucky on 22 percent, Samia on 7 percent, Jannat on 3 percent, Rupali on 34 percent, Sumaiya on 44 percent, and Shohag on 40 percent.
