A Dhaka court has granted four days of questioning for two suspects in the murder case of Jubo Dal leader Golam Kibria.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Partha Bhadra passed the order on Thursday, according to Sub-Inspector (SI) Saiful Islam.
The two suspects are Monir Hossain and Sujon.
RAB members arrested them from the Mazar area of Tongi West Police Station in Gazipur on Nov 19.
On Thursday, Pallabi Police Station Inspector Mohammad Hanif, the investigation officer of the case, presented the two suspects in court and applied for a seven-day remand.
State lawyer Jamal Uddin argued in favour of the questioning, saying: “They suddenly entered the shop, shot, and killed Kibria.
“A suspect named Masud supplied four weapons to four people to carry out the murder. He is the main planner.”
Monir’s lawyer Rana Sheikh sought bail, saying: “There are no specific allegations that he entered the shop and fired shots.”
The court asked the investigation officer to clarify the specific allegations against Sujon, to which he responded: “Sujon and Sohel belong to the same group. They work together and take part in such incidents.”
When the court asked whether video footage existed, the investigation officer said Sujon’s name appeared in the confessional statement of another suspect named Jony Bhuiyan.
Jony was caught by locals and handed over to the police after the incident. He gave a confessional statement in court on Tuesday.
Around 7pm on Nov 17, three men wearing masks and helmets entered a hardware shop in C Block near the old Pallabi police station and shot Kibria from point-blank.
Kibria was rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital at 8pm but was declared dead by the doctor.
While making their escape, the gunmen also shot a battery-operated autorickshaw driver named Arif Hossain, who is currently receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
As the attackers fled, locals caught 25-year-old Jony and handed him over to police.
Kibria’s wife Sabiha Akter Dina started a case with Pallabi Police the day after the incident.
