New DMP commissioner, RAB chief appointed in police reshuffle

Additional IGP AKM Shahidur Rahman is the new RAB chief, CID Deputy Inspector General Md Mainul Hasan is the new DMP commissioner

After naming a new police chief, the government has appointed a new Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner and Rapid Action Battalion director general.

Md Mainul Hasan, deputy inspector general (DIG) of the Criminal Investigation Department, has been appointed as the new DMP chief after removing DMP Police Commissioner Habibur Rahman, the public administration ministry announced on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Additional IGP AKM Shahidur Rahman from the Police Headquarters has been appointed as the new RAB chief.

The elite force’s Director General Md Harun-Ar-Rashid and DMP’s Habibur have been transferred to Police Headquarters.

On Tuesday, the government appointed Md Mainul Islam, commandant of Traffic and Driving School, as the new Inspector General of Police, or IGP, after removing IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun.

The changes in the senior law enforcement positions have come after a mass movement toppled the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government.
